A New Blog

Hi everyone! This will be my first blog post on my website.  And hopefully there will be lots more to come.

 

Why am I starting a blog?

The simple answer is that I want to share my interests, and I hope that others reading what I write will find some value in my content.  Those that have interacted with me personally know I am a quirky dude with lots of random knowledge and factoids. Some of that knowledge you may find interesting, others you may not care about, and most of the time you want me to walk away slowly.

 

But the simple truth is that I like to learn about random things. I watch a lot of educational and entertainment content on YouTube. I read books and articles on business strategy. I watch a lot of movies and TV shows. I watch my favorite sports teams like the Lakers choke all the time. Basically, I am always trying to keep myself constantly updated in the things that interest me. And I want to provide an outlet to share to everyone else because maybe the things that interest me will interest you. And maybe you will learn a thing or two about why Star Wars is the greatest franchise or something to that effect. By blogging, I hope to create a digital archive of my thoughts that others can access anytime and anywhere.

 

What content will I be writing about?

Given that I am an architect, I will try to make most of my content either directly or tangentially related to architecture and design. I would like to share my own educational and professional experiences, some views I have on the design process, and perhaps a couple tips on how students can get through architecture school. By no means do I consider myself an “expert” on architecture and design, but by continuously writing my thoughts on those matters, my vision is that we can all engage in communal discourse and further the field of architecture together.

 

While most of my content will be design-based, the rest will be about anything. I love talking about movies, tv shows, sports, YouTube, etc., so expect a lot of writings on those. I am constructing a digital archive called MAEDO MOVIE MINUTES on my website, so you can go check out what I have been watching in theaters recently (and all the way back to when I moved to Brooklyn in July 2021). I may bang out some quick reviews on the movies that interest me, or I may not. Its only one of those two choices, so we will see.   

 

Where do I expect this to go?

I love my job as a designer (right now I am currently working for BIG in NYC), and I will probably be working as a “traditional architect” for the rest of my life. I will probably go work from firm to firm, and hopefully one day I can open my own practice. But I want a little more than just that.

 

My first instincts were to create a Podcast and/or a YouTube channel. Although I may still do that in the foreseeable future, I would like to start basic. I just want to jot my thoughts down first through blogging and blogging and blogging. Just trying to get my content out there as quickly as possible. But, eventually, over time, I hope my content creation gets better and better, and I can start to define my voice.

 

Most importantly, though, I plan to use this adventure to further my architecture career. By trying something on my own, and by putting myself out there, I hope to develop unique skills and create meaningful, unexpected connections with others.

 

What do I expect of you?

In order to get my blog going, I know that I cannot do it alone. Any support and engagement from you guys would be so incredibly appreciative!
